Historically, commercial fragrances have virtually no roots in the Chinese culture, so it is surprising that perfume sales are booming in China. According to a recent New York Times article, perfume sales are growing at an exponential rate in China even though it is slowing down everywhere else around the world.
“The concept of perfume is so new that a lot of Chinese consumers are, in fact, not buying a perfume but rather the brand to which a bottle of perfume happens to be attached,” the article reported.
As a side note, all of the celebrity brands are selling except for Coty’s Jennifer Lopez.

Pop star Christina Aguilera has taken a break from her music career after giving birth to her first child in January. She is now working on a new fragrance to add to her perfume line. Aguilera’s previous two perfumes have been an international success. Her third perfume is set to launch some time this fall. In the meantime, here’s a commercial clip of her current perfume.
Although I haven’t seen many of Audrey Tautou’s movies, I’ve heard many positive reviews of her performance. At least, I know she did a good job in the Da Vinci Code.
Apparently, she has now replaced the Oscar winner Nicole Kidman as the new face for Chanel No. 5. It looks like we will no longer be seeing Nicole’s face when we shop at the fragrance counters at department stores.
The perfume’s new ad campaign will start off with a short film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet starring Audrey Tautou, of course, in the leading role. The short film is scheduled to launch in 2009.
