Perfume Tales: The Smell of Break Up

As a perfume enthusiast, I’m sad to tell you the story of Leslie Ware, whose break-up was caused by a perfume.

Perfume Cause Break-UpMs. Ware is a fashion editor for a magazine at Huntsville, Alaska. A few years ago, she was engaged to a man who disliked Trish McEvoy 9, a scent she wore for seven years. Trish McEvoy 9, for those who are not familiar, is a perfume composed of fruits and creamy vanilla.

According to Ms. Ware, her fiancé did not like the scent because:

“He thought I smelled like a traveling carnival, the kind where they sell corn dogs, because I guess the smell was reminiscent of cotton candy. This was the demise of Trish No. 9.”

Consequently, Ms. Ware broke up with him, and has stopped using the perfume since.

Unfortunately, a recent relationship ended up in yet another break-up because the new boyfriend bought a perfume for her in which she deemed as ‘Old Lady Perfume’. Ms. Ware had told him not to buy any perfume for her because she is picky, but he bought one anyway.

I never thought a perfume can possibly be the cause of a break-up (two, in this case), but this story has proved otherwise. In my opinion, breaking-up over a scent is very extreme. If Ms. Ware can stop wearing Trish McEvoy 9 after leaving her fiancé, why not do so prior to the act? It boggles the mind to know people would blame perfume as the culprit to bad relationship(s), while the situation could have been easily remedied through compromise.

On the other hand, I feel sorry for Ms. Ware’s unfortunate circumstances.

“traveling carnival”….ouch. Kinda harsh! My good friend used to love wearing her Vanilla scented perfume until some guy told her she smelled like “cake” :(

Awww…I suppose ‘cake’ is not as harsh as ‘traveling carnival’, but that’s sad. Unless he meant she smells like a ‘yummy’ cake. :P
